Avrim Blum received his Ph.D. at MIT in 1991 under Ron Rivest. His main research interests are machine learning theory, approximation algorithms, on-line algorithms, algorithmic game theory, and mechanism design.

After two years of postdoctoral research at the University of Pennsylvania under the supervision of Michael Kearns, he joined Google Research NY for three years.
